Arnold cemented his reputation as a war hero on May 10, 1775, when troops under his command and the command of Ethan Allen seized Fort Ticonderoga, New York, from the British.

Allen and Arnold did not get along, and attempts were made by each man to glorify his role in the battle at the expense of his comrade. Allen won the PR war, and this disrespect may have been a factor in Arnold's eventual defection to the British.
