4. Looking Ahead: As you may or may not know, next Monday is Presidents Day, which is a national holiday. Find out what institutions in Cherokee County will be closed on Monday at 10 a.m. In addition, Cherokee schools will be closed all next week for Winter Break.

5. On This Date in History: On Feb. 15, 1898, the USS Maine, an American battleship moored in Havana, Cuba during the Cuban revolt against Spanish colonial rule, exploded and sank under circumstances that are still unclear to this day. The American press used the sinking of the Maine to rally public support for a war against Spain, claiming Spanish treachery sank the battleship. The resulting Spanish-American War was a resounding victory for the United States.
