5. On This Date in History: On April, 18, 1923, the New York Yankees hold their first regular season game at "The House That Ruth Built," Yankee Stadium. Prior to Ruth's arrival to New York, the Yankees were forced to sublet the Polo Grounds from the rival New York Giants. Ruth's arrival allowed the Yankees to generate enough cash to build their own stadium. The New York Giants left for San Francisco after 1957, and the Polo Grounds were torn down in 1964.
