Freeze Watch Friday for Canton

Cherokee County will be under a freeze watch late Friday through Saturday morning.

Be prepared to bundle up again, Canton.

The cold weather is set to continue with another frost advisory and freeze watch issued this morning by the National Weather Service in Peachtree City.

Following a warning of frost in effect through 9 this morning, another frost advisory is set to go into effect between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m. Friday.

"A much colder and drier airmass continues to settle over Georgia this morning," NWS' hazardous weather outlook states. "Areas of frost are possible over portions of north and central Georgia this morning and once again Friday morning as near calm winds, clear skies and minimum temperatures at or below 36 degrees (are) anticipated."

freeze watch also is in effect for late Friday night through Saturday morning, with temperatures expected to hover in the low to mid 30s between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m. A freeze watch means conditions are favorable for a freeze event in and close to the watch area.

"As surface high pressure builds over the area during the evening on Friday, a cold, dry airmass will allow temperatures to drop into the mid 20s to mid 30s north of a LaGrange-to-Thomson line, according to the NWS.

In Canton, expect a high of 60 today and a low of 36 Thursday night, followed by a morning frost Friday. The mercury is expected to reach 54 Friday, but likely will dip below freezing, to 30 degrees, Friday night and early Saturday morning, according to the NWS' forecast.
