Deadline Nears for MLK Unity Award Nominations

The award recognizes the contributions of a person in the community who has made a positive impact by promoting harmonious racial and cultural relations.

Time is winding down for residents to submit their nominations for the MLK Unity Award.

The award will be given out during the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Breakfast, which is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at the Northside Hospital-Cherokee Conference Center in Canton.

The event, co-sponsored by Woodstock-based Allen Temple AME Church and the Cherokee County government, is free and open to the public.

This year's event will feature retired WSB-TV anchor Monica Pearson as the keynote speaker. Pearson retired in July 2012 after spending 37 years as an anchor for Channel 2 Action News.

Established in 1999 by Allen Temple Pastor Carl A. Moore Sr., the award recognizes the contributions of a person in the community who has made a positive impact by promoting "harmonious racial and cultural relations."

The application deadline is December 30. See the attached .PDF to nominate someone for the award.
