Two events will be held on Wednesday to commemorate Sept. 11 in Cherokee County.

Cherokee County will hold its Patriot's Day Ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday Sept. 11 at the Public Safety Memorial in downtown Canton.

The memorial is located between the Cherokee County Justice Center and the Cherokee County Historic Courthouse.

This year's keynote speaker will be Major General Jim Butterworth, Georgia National Guard’s 41st adjutant general.

The city of Woodstock will join forces with Woodstock Jaycees to put on its annual 9/11 Day of Remembrance. The event will start at 7 p.m. at the Park at City Center.

For those who can't make the Wednesday events, Woodstock Church of Christ also will hold an event to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on on Sunday Sept. 15.

The remembrance service will start at 5:30 p.m. at the church, located at 219 Rope Mill Road in Woodstock.

Congress in March 2009 passed a law authorizing Sept. 11 to be designated as National Day of Service and Remembrance, which President Barack Obama signed into law in April 2009.
