CASA Cherokee Honors Abused Children With Race, Light of Hope Awards

CASA for Children in Cherokee County will commemorate April as Child Abuse Awareness month with two events.

Court-Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA, for Children in Cherokee County won't let the month of April go by without recognizing the many children who go through life being abused.

The nonprofit organization will commemorate April as Child Abuse Awareness Month with two events.

The organization will hold a Superhero 5K & 1 Mile Run/Walk Saturday April 13 at First Baptist Church of Woodstock. The 5k will start at 8 a.m. and the 1-Mile Run/Walk begins at 9 a.m.

The fee is $30 to run in the 5K and $15 to participate in the 1-Mile Run/Walk. Race-day registration and pre-registration check-in starts at 7 a.m. Those wanting to participate can also sign up on the Active.com site for the race.

CASA Cherokee will also hold its famed Light of Hope Awards at 7 p.m. Tuesday April 16 at the Cherokee Arts Center in downtown Canton. The awards recognizes individuals in Cherokee County who advocate and support children.

Categories of those who will be recognized include those who work in the religious, youth, athletic, child welfare, volunteer and public service, school personnel and youth working with youth fields. The event is free and open to the public.
