The Rotary Club of Canton's last week welcomed its newest president and formally dedicated its park in downtown Canton.

The annual Changing of the Guard ceremony for the 2014-15 Rotary Year was held at the Canton Rotary Park, located next to the Cherokee County Historic Courthouse.

Outgoing President Kim Loesing passed the gavel to Incoming President Hugh Beavers, who expressed his appreciation for having the chance again to serve as Club President.

In October 2010, Hugh's employer at the time, Habersham Bank, transferred him from Canton to Flowery Branch, forcing him to step down as president.

Before turning the gavel over to Beavers, Loesing called Georgia Rotary Student Program Trustee Bob Robinson, who presented a plaque to outgoing District First Lady Lois Zellman.

The plaque honored Zellman and outgoing District Governor Anton Zellman for helping the Club reach the No. 1 Per Capita Giving status.

Loesing also thanked outgoing board members Hugh Beavers and Edna Cook for their three years of service and presented Past-President Barbara Jacoby the Rotary International Avenues of Service Award.

State Rep. Mandi Ballinger of Canton was also honored for leadership in sponsoring House Bill 911, which makes strangulation a felony offense.

Other 2014-15 board members include:
  • Secretary Rand Bagwell
  • Sergeant-at-Arms Matthew Thomas
  • President-Elect Jerry Cooper
  • Immediate Past President Kim Loesing
  • New Board members Lynn Epps and Patty Baker
