Bear Sighting in Mayor's Backyard

Canton Mayor Gene Hobgood took this picture of his visitor about two hours ago.

And about two hours ago, a black bear made its way to Hobgood's backyard in the 300 block of Cherokee Street.

"Strange things are happening around here," the mayor wrote in an email to Canton-Sixes Patch. "The bear was just lumbering along, did not seem to be too afraid."

He took a picture of his visitor, who he described as "an apparent very young bear.

"Great to see," Hobgood said. "I hope he can navigate his way around our traffic."
