Why Go: It's not easy being green, but this family-friendly event will make it easier. It's filled with information on energy savings, solar panels, rain garden design, rain harvesting and community building, just to name a few.

Why Go: The whole family can learn together how to create a backyard haven for the birds, bees and butterflies. Take a container and plant a pollinator pot to take home. The seminar is free, but seating is limited so call  for reservations.

Where/When: Days' residence, Ball Ground, 6 p.m. Saturday

Why Go: Now's your chance to meet other history buffs and enjoy a great picnic. If you join the group during the picnic, you can join at a special membership rate. Bring side dishes and camp chairs; meats and beverages will be provided. Call for reservations and directions to the picnic site.

Where/When: Falany Performing Arts Center at Reinhardt University, Waleska; 7:30 p.m. Saturday

Why Go: Kick off your Independence Day celebration with the family and some good old American music from the Atlanta Concert Band as they take the stage Saturday night in Waleska. The concert band, originally formed in 1958 and reformed in 1973, has been delighting and inspiring audiences since then. Call the box office at 770-720-9167 for tickets.
