Alec Riggins appointed to West Point
Alec Riggins, a senior graduate at Cherokee High School, received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. He was nominated by Congressman Phil Gingrey of Georgia.Alec is the son of Aileen and Joseph Riggins.
Alec is a member of the CHS Air Force JROTC program, the Cherokee Warrior Football team, the wrestling team and the National Honor Society.
The process for admission to West Point included a physical test and a medical examination, as well as a review of College Prep Advanced and Advanced Placement course work along with SAT scores.
The Academy accepts approximately 1,000 students per year. Alec reports in July for six weeks of CBT (Cadet Basic Training) before classes begin. Upon graduation from West Point, he will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army.
