Candidate Supporter's Home Vandalized

Politics can be nasty, but an attack on supporters in a school board race drops to a moral low for Cherokee County residents.

Editor's note: Supporters of Kyla Cromer did not remove yard signs as stated in this blog post. For an update, read "."

Politics are getting nasty in Cherokee County. Supporters of Kyla Cromer have stooped to new lows. One resident in a prominent Cherokee County subdivision, who proudly showed their support for Cherokee County School Board Candidate Kelly Marlow with a sign in their yard, awoke this morning to find their home vandalized. Kyla Cromer signs were placed in their yard while their trees and bushes were decked out with rolls of toilet paper.

This election is supposed to be about what is best for our children but what kind of message are we sending our children with actions like this. I don’t know if it was adults or teens but either way the adults to need stand up and take responsibility for their actions because either way the “responsible” adults played a part in this action. It sad to see that people will drop to a level like this. If they have a problem with a candidate it needs to be handled in a mature way,not by simply bashing and attacking the supporters. We live in America and everyone is entitled to their opinion. I urge people to use facts and words to persuade people if you believe strongly in your candidate of choice instead of taking physical action, and may I say cowardly pranks against the opponent’s supporters.

I hardly think that Kyla Cromer would have sanctioned this kind of behavior and for you imply otherwise is a gross misjudgement on on your part. How dare you say that it is Kyla Cromer supporters without absolute proof. By your methods, I could say that it was supporters of Kelly Marlow wanting to garner sympathy for their candidate. I don't see you blogging about the Kyla Cromer signs that were stolen from the houses next to and across the street from Kelly's house. Maybe you should check with them to get their story!
Kelly Poole June 25, 2012 at 09:08 PM
Furthermore, Kyla Cromer is a class act and she would not stoop to levels this low or ask others to do it for her. So before you speak, know what you are talking about and only speak the truth and support it with facts, not fiction!
No More Bullies June 25, 2012 at 09:14 PM
What is your evidence that it was "supporters of Kyla Cromer" who were involved? That is a bold accusation, and totally baseless. Teenage pranksters are more likely, given the "ammunition" used. Use a little bit of logical reasoning here-- why would supporters of an opponent leave a calling card (political signs) on the scene? Or...... maybe it was someone hoping to frame Cromer supporters for the job and generate some fake outrage in the process.

I am hoping that you didn't realize that this is a BLOG entry and not a news reporter article. By definition a blog is where someone can express their personal opinions. I never once in my blog said anything against or for either candidate. If you read the entire blog you would have noticed that I even referenced that it could have been kids. My reason for posting this was to express my disgust with how nasty politics can get and how people (no matter which candidate you support) should seek more mature options when it comes to politics.
Betty June 26, 2012 at 01:24 AM
By stating that supporters of one candidate were the masterminds behind this evil plot you are definitely saying something against one candidate. I'll wait for the results to come back from the crime lab (they dusted the TP for prints right?) but I'm guessing you have absolutely zero basis for your accusation. Laying out baseless claims on a news outlet such as this, and then hiding behind the "just a blog" defense is fairly immature, the cyber version of throwing toilet paper in ones trees, although the collateral damage may be greater in this instance.
Addie Price June 26, 2012 at 01:55 AM
I'm so sorry you feel that way. I would like to recommend that if you don't want to hear opinions that differ from your own you should probably refrain from reading blogs and stick to the news articles that should be reported from an unbiased view. I personally do not hold a candidate responsible for actions caused by their supports that were not sanctioned by them and according to the "article" neither candidate condones this behavior.

I live across the street from Kelly Marlow. My signs and my neighbor's Kyla Cromer and Janet Read signs were taken Saturday night. I find it very I retesting that these vandals drove by many of these signs and randomly picked ours. Why would a Kyla supporter want to remove the signs flanking her opponent's house?
Frank Jones June 26, 2012 at 03:01 PM
Addie...It's obvious that you are posting a Blog instead of news. News would present the facts while your blog posts rumors and opinons. As to the current TP & sign event, your Blog is slanted and presents opinions as facts by claiming that supporters of Kyla Cromer TP'd a Marlow supporter's house and that the same individuals stole and placed Cromer signs in that supporter's yard...As far as the news, there is no evidence to support your claims. You stated that teens may have been the culprits (which is possible as kids like to TP houses) but then go on to claim that it's the fault of "responsible" adults who played a part in this action. Lastly, the tone of your piece is highly slanted (which is understandable for a blog) as you stated that a resident of a "prominent" subsidivision (thus implying a prominent individual) who "proudly" showed support for Marlow (thus implying that anyone who supports Cromer isn't as proud) and then accused (without support) Cromer's supporters of "cowardly" behaviour. I support your right to blog, but I ask that you review what you write and look at its tone and the underlying message. Not to do so isn't flattering to you. One final comment...I agree that this election IS about the children. There are two sides in this debate and neither side is inherently wrong. Its just that each side has different opinions.
Angela Chambers June 26, 2012 at 05:47 PM
In case you have not been following the original story, the home was "vandalized" by her friends who are reportedly Marlow supporters. Interesting how the truth varies from speculation, huh?
Flock of Schoolgirls June 27, 2012 at 02:08 AM
Thank you ladies for being brave enough to tell the truth about what happened! I know it would have been so easy just to let the public believe the lies. It's great to know that there are still some folks in this world willing to stand up for "truth, justice and the American way!" my hats off to you!
No More Bullies June 27, 2012 at 02:22 AM
Addie, where is your outrage now at Kelly Marlow and her lies about this incident? You are all about adults taking responsibility for their actions, so you owe Kyla Cromer supporters (whom you libeled in your second sentence) an apology.
Stacey June 27, 2012 at 05:02 AM
I agree with you 100%. Where is Addie's blog on the Kelly Marlow lie? Shretard pretty bold to give this story to the press when she knew it was not the truth. I am glad to know Rodney took the time to write a story about Kelly's lie from her previous story. Again, another upstanding, moral person our children should look up to. Really????
Flock of Schoolgirls June 27, 2012 at 05:23 AM
As our "friend" Mikael Kient likes repeatedly telling others on this patch, individuals can be sued for libel for factually inaccurate, even on blogs. Can we throw defamation of Kyla's character in there as well? Thankfully Rodney recognized this could implicate him and printed the necessary corrections. Thank you Rodney.

She's probably in hiding due to the ill effects this blog post and subsequent articles caused her candidate of choice.
Rodney Thrash June 28, 2012 at 06:13 PM
Folks: No need to taunt Addie. There are tons of videos from Monday night's debate featuring Kyla Cromer and Kelly Marlow. As you prepare to vote, make sure you know where the candidates stand on the issues that will affect your children. This wrap-up includes links to all 11 videos: http://canton-ga.patch.com/articles/watch-the-school-board-candidates Thanks!
Frank Jones June 28, 2012 at 06:34 PM
FYI...The Kyla Cromer sign along Steel's Bridge Road in BridgeMill (along the new sub-division) has been stolen or is otherwise missing. Kelly Marlow's sign is still there.

It's good to see such a big Obamacare fan like Frank Jones voicing such loud support for another liberal Democrat, Kyla Cromer. It's also telling that you liberal Democrats are focusing on a drunken prank rather than the real issues that Cherokee Republicans will be voting upon. Cromer was totally exposed as a blue liberal Democrat during the Monday debate, and I'd like to thank Rodney Thrash for doing such a good job of recording that (I just watched 'em!). Before that viewing, I didn't know which of these candidates I was supporting but man, Cromer's platform is just like Obama's: Spend, spend, spend, spend, spend!! No fiscal austerity in sight! No parental choice! Indignation that any taxpayer dare question the Mighty Gov't! Pretty much anything BUT a Republican platform. Kyla Cromer? More like Kyla CrObama!! no wonder her fans are focusing on yard signs. lol
Frank Jones June 29, 2012 at 02:48 AM
Dan, I made a statement of fact that Kyla's sign on Steel's Bridge Rd. that's not a Democrat or Republican issue. It's simply theft and bad behavior by someone. As to me being a Democrat, I consider myself an Independent who supports the general idea of Obama's version of Romney's health care plan. Kyla claims to be a Republican and is running on the Republican ticket and speaks of many republican ideals such as local control. What Marlow and Rogers want is Atlanta control and/or local puppets. And is Kyla wants to spend, spend, spend for the betterment of Cherokee County kids, that's fine by me. If you have children and want a school system that skimps, I feel sorry for your kids.
Jim Beam June 29, 2012 at 04:27 AM
Frank, as far as spending goes, the proposed $518 million budget for 2012/13 (http://cherokeetribune.com/bookmark/19090182-Education-board-expected-to-table-2012-13-budget) should be more than sufficient and hardly "skimps". According to Ms. Cromer's line of thinking as evidenced in the video, it's still not enough!! No Cherokee Cty teacher should be furloughed with a half billion budget but Cromer seems to elevate the fiscal needs of Admins over the teachers. In Rodney's video,Cromer comes across as a puppet for the current Board. You say Cromer "claims to be a Republican" but her platform is that of the liberal Democrat and elevates 'Govt' over 'individuals'. When it comes to Republican values, Cromer's platform completely lacks Fiscal Responsibility. I smell a RINO!! The Obama-Big-Spending platform Ms. Cromer endorses leads to Greece. When one is in a fiscal hole, it's best to stop digging. Instead, Cromer wants yet-another shovel and wants me to buy it. no thanks! PS: My kid's in high school and already angry at how much debt you liberals are saddling him with. Kids grow up so fast these days. I'll pass your sympathy on to him.
Frank Jones June 29, 2012 at 07:50 AM
Steely, your logic is illogical and your points flat out wrong. Your head is so wrapped up in Republican mantra that you cannot see the truth. Cherokee County has one of the lowest admin cost purer student in the state! There's not much that can our should be cut in admin. And if you've ever run a business, you'd know that cutting too deeply actually does more financial harm than good. Yes Cherokee County has a 500 budget but if your look at it, the overwhelming majority is for educating the children, the next largest is capx and debt service, then transliteration/food, then admin (pulled from memory). As to who us more fiscally responsible...D vs R, your facts are wrong as well. Both parties are to blame for the debt, however the Dems recognize that there is a debt problem and are willing to raise taxes while the Repubs stock their heads on the sand and propose more tax cuts for the wealthy. As to your son's view on things, he's an extension of you and his views reflect your bias. Give him a few years and some college education away from your narrow mindedness and his views will change.
Jim Beam June 29, 2012 at 01:12 PM
Frank, my numbers and argument are 100% logical and complete fact. You are too personally invested in the Cromer campaign to be able to see the truth and believe that continuing a policy of never-ending spending increases and unending taxation is a great thing, even when you look around planet earth and see the failure of such Entitlement thinking on a grand scale. Bottom line is that the current BOE can't even make a half-billion-$$ budget work without furloughing teachers and penalizing students. And that must change. I don't believe Cromer is the candidate to achieve that change. Nor do I believe that infinite tax increases are the solution, Especially during the worst Recession in memory. Americans are fighting to keep their heads above water and make house payments on time and you Dems say 'We need more taxes!'. We DO NOT NEED MORE TAXATION. Locally, we don't even need to cut. The BOE just need to make $500M+ work. Cromer is adamant that she cannot do that. To me and my son, that's unacceptable. As to your children, they'll be angry with you once they realize the debt burden you've selfishly put on their shoulders. They won't thank you for that nor the high tax rates you've saddled them with. We won't agree on this issue so good day to you, sir.
Reading & Listening June 29, 2012 at 02:38 PM
I am new to this site, but am a long time reader of other local news and politically-focused outlets. Steely Dan, as a parent in Bridgemill, I have stayed on top of this race in particular since these women are now my "post representatives." I watched the video myself, and where on earth you're coming up with "liberal democrat" is beyond my wildest dreams. Why don't you ask Kelly Marlow who she voted for in the 2008 presidential race? I don't think you'll be calling Kyla Cromer "Obama" any longer.
Frank Jones July 02, 2012 at 02:33 AM
@Steely, true, we won't agree. That said, the BOE is doing the best it can without raising taxes and are making it work. $500 million is a lot of money but that isn't sufficient money to run our school system as we'd all like it to be run. Cromer and the the current BOE believe that the only current solution based upon the available $ is to have furlough days. Marlow believes we should trim the "fat" in an already lean admin facility which us one if the leanest in the state. This one position of Marlow shows she doesn't understand finance, budgets, or financial statements. As Dem vs. Repub and taxes, if you look at history, our glory days in the 50s and 60s were accompanied by high tax rates and low national debt all while building the infrastructure (interstates) we still use today. It wasn't until the 80s and lower tax rates under Repubs that the national debt increased substantially. We now have the lowest tax burden in modern history and unbelievable debt, and Repubs want to cut taxes even more. So exactly who is the irresponsible one here?

These are all things that you http://www.coachoutletonlinegg.com/ should know about America. http://www.coachoutletonlineaol.net/ I also know that we have much to http://www.coachfactoryoutletwy.com/ learn about China. Looking http://www.coachoutletstorefc.com/ around at this magnificent http://www.coachoutletaol.org/ city -- and looking around http://www.coachfactoryonlineest.net/ this room -- I do believe http://www.coachfactoryoutletpst.com/ that our nations hold something http://www.coachfactoryoutlettx.com/ important in common, and that is http://www.coachfactoryonlinefc.org/ a belief in the future. http://www.coachoutletwy.com/ Neither the United States nor China http://www.coachoutletonlineybw.com/ is content to rest on our achievements.
