[UPDATED at 9:27 a.m.] Early Tuesday morning the National Weather Service upgraded Monday's winter storm watch for most of the metro area to a warning, in effect from 9 a.m. this morning to 7 a.m. Wednesday. In Cherokee, Monday's hazardous weather outlook has been upgraded to a winter weather advisory.

Light snow accumulations up to an inch are possible in Cherokee, with 1 to 2 inches of snow expected further south in the metro area. The snow may begin as early as mid-morning and last close to midnight. The NWS warns that snow-covered roads will make travel treacherous through Wednesday morning.

For those Canton residents commuting south, the NWS warns that the weather may have a significant impact on roads, stating "snow and ice covered roads will make travel difficult or impossible Tuesday night into Wednesday."
