Unity Breakfast Celebrates Diversity, Tolerance

The annual MLK Unity Breakfast will kick off Saturday at 9 a.m. in Canton.

The message of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s activism will be on full display Saturday morning as Cherokee County will come together to celebrate the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Breakfast.

The free event, co-sponsored by Allen Temple AME Church and Cherokee County, will start at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Northside Hospital-Cherokee Conference Center in Canton.

This year's keynote speaker will be retired WSB-TV anchor Monica Pearson.

The event pulls in a diverse audience from various racial, political social and religious backgrounds across the county. The celebration also highlights the MLK Scholarship Fundraiser and the MLK Unity Award.

Established in 1999 by Allen Temple Pastor Carl A. Moore Sr., the award recognizes the contributions of a person in the community who has made a positive impact by promoting "harmonious racial and cultural relations."
