Five Things You Need to Know About Canton's Water, Sewer Rates

The rates are changing at the beginning of October.

1. Water rates for residential buildings will change as follows: The base rate (up to 2,000 gallons) is increasing from $10.90 to $11.39. Every thousand gallons past the base, up to and including 10,000 gallons, will cost an additional $5.59, up from $5.34. The 10-15,000 gallon rate is changing to $6.69 from $6.40, and every thousand gallons after 15,000 will cost $7.26, an increase from $6.95.

2. Here's how irrigation rates will change: The base rate (again, up to 2,000 gallons) will increase from $14.10 to $14.73. Every thousand gallons above 2,000 will cost an additional $5.59, up from $5.34.

3. Commercial and industrial rates are going up, too: The base rate for commercial and industrial water services will be set at $11.39, up from the old rate of $10.90. Every thousand gallons after that will cost $5.59.

4. The city's sewer rates are no exception to the increases: The base rate for the sewer system is increasing to $17.09, from $16.35. Every thousand gallons above the 2,000 gallon base will run an additional $8.41, up from $8.05.

5. When do the new rates take effect? Expect to see the altered pricing reflected on your bills starting on Monday, October 1, 2013.
