Update at 8:47 a.m.: the city of Canton has postponed the committee meeting to 3 p.m. Wednesday.

A committee tasked with finding Canton's next city manager will hold its first meeting today.

The City Manager Search Committee will meet today at 3 p.m. at Canton City Hall. The committee — made up of City Council members Bill Grant, John Rust and Mayor Gene Hobgood — will begin the task of finding the person who will permanently assume the position.

Councilman Glen Cummins is currently serving as the interim city manager. He was named interim after last Thursday's council meeting. Earlier this month, former City Manager Scott Wood abruptly resigned before the Jan. 2 council meeting.
