Adopt-A-Senior Program Still Needs Volunteers

Residents can now sign up to take care of less fortunate Cherokee seniors through the Volunteer Aging Council's Adopt-A-Senior Program.

Less than 50 senior citizens have been "adopted" by local residents for the upcoming holiday season.

That's according to the folks at Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency, the agency partnering with the Volunteer Aging Council for the annual Adopt-A-Senior Program

Recreation Coordinator Frankie Sanders said only 46 seniors have been adopted so far in the annual initiative.

Volunteers can now register to participate in the program by contacting Sanders at (770) 924-7768 or fsanders@cherokeega.com.

The initiative hopes to reach 250 seniors participating in Cherokee County Senior Service's Meals on Wheels, Congregate Meals or Homemaker programs.

Those who volunteer to help will be asked to put together a gift bag that should include a full size warm, cozy blanket and a universal/one size fits all scarf, toboggan or hat, and gloves.

Volunteers are asked to assemble the package in a holiday-themed bag and drop off the items at the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency's office at 7545 Main Street Building 200 in Woodstock.
