Children a nd parents attend the class together because it's important for parents to be able to continue reinforcing safety behaviors at home. Revved Up Kids will bring the course to any metro-Atlanta group of 12 or more ch ildren who has a suitable space (at least 800 sq feet of open space wit h access to electricity).\nStructure of the Revved Up Kids Basic Child Self-Defense Class\nThe Revved Up Kids Basic class is specifically desi gned for children ages 6 - 10 (1st - 5th grade). We teach the course in a way that lets the children understand the seriousness of the subject matter but\, at the same time\, leaves them feeling empowered\, not fe arful. Why ages 6 - 10? Children younger than 6 may be frightened by th e material in the presentation\; and children older than 10 are faced w ith a different set of safety challenges.\nThis class requires that eac h child be accompanied by a parent or other adult who will learn along w ith the child and be committed to reinforcing the concepts on an ongoin g basis at home. Children in this age range do not typically retain lea rning unless it is continually reinforced. In order for the children to get the most out of the class and continue to understand the importanc e of owning their personal safety\, they need adults in their lives who will maintain that safety dialogue.\nWe understand the needs and atten tion span of children in this age group and we have designed the Revved Up Kids Basic child self-defense class to have minimal "lecture" time.
