Local public safety agencies have been working together to present the annual Patriot Day ceremony which will be held on Tuesday, September 11th, at the Public Safety Memorial, located next to the historic Cherokee County Courthouse in downtown Canton, beginning at 8:30 AM.  The event is held each year to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice during the September 11th terrorist attacks on New York City.

The keynote speaker for the event will be Johnny Weaver, President of Mauldin’s Body Shop and Towing. Other scheduled speakers include Cherokee County Fire Chief, Tim Prather, Canton Police Chief, Robert Merchant, Woodstock Police Chief, Calvin Moss and Deputy Chief of the Cherokee County Marshal’s Office, Kevin Roach. Canton Mayor, Gene Hobgood, will offer some closing remarks. There will be a special musical tribute and the playing of the National Anthem by the Cherokee High School Band.

Also during the presentation, Cherokee County Sheriff, Roger Garrison, and Cherokee County Fire Chief, Tim Prather, will be laying a wreath at the memorial in honor of the many men and women in public safety who lost their lives on September 11th.

The public is invited to attend this ceremony to remember the tragedy of September 11th and to honor those who keep us safe in public safety and the men and women protecting our freedoms in our armed forces.  This is the 11th year that the Patriot Day event has been held.
