The 2-0 Grizzlies played their first game against Kell High with rumors that Kell was a 20-plus point favorite. This seemed to become reality with the Grizzlies quickly trailing 14-0 due to a fumble and an interception early in the game. Creekview had other ideas, though. The Grizzlies scored twice in the first half to tie it up at 14-14. For the rest of the contest, the game was up for grabs, staying within single score range for both teams. Lassiter High wasted no time scoring in Friday night's 41-6 victory over Cherokee High. Barely two minutes off the clock, Willie Police (No. 5) rushed for a touchdown and Lassiter successfully went for a 2-point conversion.    Cherokee's first two possessions ended in fumbles. Lassiter used both turnovers to convert two field goals to push the lead to 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw Lassiter add another touchdown when Duby Nwaubi (3) caught a pass from Eddie Printz (7). Down 21-0, Cherokee got on the board with six minutes left in the first half. North Forsyth High jumped out to an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter Friday night. Cherokee High fought back throughout the rest of the night, with a couple scores of their own in the second and third quarters to make it 21-12 going into the fourth quarter.   North Forsyth pulled away with a late score to secure the win for the undefeated Raiders (3-0). Cherokee (1-2) will face Lassiter High (3-0) next Friday in Canton.
In the Creekview home opener, the Grizzlies wasted no time outscoring River Ridge 24-0 in the first half. Quarterback Hayden Hall had completions to Will Kirby (No. 26), Hunter Udall (21) and Connor Dulmage (5). On the ground, Isaiah Rogers (27) and Chandler Wold (18) moved the Grizzlies downfield. The second half continued Creekview's production. With the exception of a third quarter lapse that cost the Grizzlies a touchdown and another score for River Ridge in the second half, Creekview came out with a decisive 34-14 victory. The Creekview Grizzlies came out hot Thursday night for the team's season opener at Cherokee High School. After a quick touchdown on the opening drive, the Grizzlies put up a defense that was just too much for the Warriors. Creekview had its biggest battle with penalties. Under the direction of new head coach Josh Shaw, Cherokee fought back. The contest ended with a 21-13 Creekview victory. The Creekview High School football team on Thursday and Friday participated in the annual Iron Man competition to see where players stood physically for the upcoming season. They were tested in areas of strength, endurance, speed and agility. They competed against each other and the clock to see who was well rounded enough to score 100 points and qualify as Iron Men. Those elite individuals battled for the top spot and the overall Iron Man title, which ultimately went to defensive end Austin Weaver. High school football may be months away, but the Creekview Grizzlies are working as hard as they would in the fall. Recently, a Lift-A-Thon gave players a chance to showcase the strength that has been developed in the team's daily "Breakfast Club" program. They work out every morning before classes. The top athletes had combined squat, bench and power totals of close to 1,000 pounds. The Lift-A-Thon champion was Grant Rhodes, closely followed by Joseph Sorrentino and Logan Ridings. More than 400 graduates of Georgia’s largest technical college were honored in a ceremony at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on Thursday. Approximately 120 walked in the ceremony. It was only the second graduation since the college transitioned with the other technical colleges in Georgia from quarters to semesters. Popular programs for graduates this term included accounting, automotive technology, and early childhood care and education. This semester’s graduation speaker was Georgia Commissioner of Labor Mark Butler. A native of Carrollton, Butler had served the previous eight years …
Six Creekview Grizzlies competed in the 2012 Georgia State Traditional Wrestling Championships at The Arena at Gwinnett Center. Held Thursday through Saturday, Creekview battled wrestlers form all over the state. Senior Joe Hulen (138-pound weight class) had a rough start with a close 3-2 loss to Kadeem Combs of Clarke Central. He easily defeated Lee Cash of Woodland with a 13-5 major decision, Davis Burson of Pope with a 9-1 major decision and Eli Carson with a 7-3 decision. Hulen went on to win a close 4-3 contest over Matt Andres of Marist. That put Hulen in the consolation finals with …
Last weekend was an important event for wrestlers in regions around the state. Place in the top four in your weight class or go home. In 7-AAAA, six Creekview High Grizzlies advanced to sectionals, which will be held next weekend in Columbus, GA. In the 138-pound division, Joe Hulen defeated Jack Usher of Chattahoochee High by a major decision of 12-2 for the championship win. He went 3-0 for the tournament with two pins. The Creekview Jr. Grizzlies won the Kennesaw Mountain-Harrison Christmas Tournament on Thursday with a 43-14 win over North Fulton.  It was the second championship in as many months for the fifth grade boys team, winners of November's 2nd Annual Creekview Invitational Tournament. Kevin Potts and Todd Ledford are the coaches.
The 34th Hardaway Invitational was held on Friday and Saturday at Columbus State University. Three Creekview High Grizzlies were among the top finishers. Nic McLendon (18-6) battled Tyler DeNova (16-0) of Harris County in a hard fought bout that ended up in a 6-4 decision for DeNova. McLendon was the team's top performer with a second place finish. Joseph Sorrentino (19-1 record) placed third in the 182-pound class. Around 1,000 Chattahoochee Technical College graduates were honored in a ceremony at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. The ceremony recognized those completing their programs of study during the summer term and fall semester. State Sen. Chip Rogers was the commencement speaker at the event. Rogers was first elected in 2002 to the Georgia House of Representatives before being elected to the Georgia State Senate in 2004. Rogers was unanimously chosen as the Georgia Senate Majority Leader in 2009. Popular programs for graduates include Computer Information Systems, Business Administrative …
Fourteen schools attended the popular Creekview Invitational Tournament at Creekview High School this weekend. The Grizzlies, who placed second last year, dropped to sixth place this year. The team, missing graduating seniors and injured veterans, had a fair showing though with freshmen Nick McClendon (195 pounds) taking third place and Nate Bridges (113) taking fourth. Also placing were: Michael Edwards (132) at sixth place John Cowart (145) at fourth place Justin Pettyjohn (160) at third place Hunter Udall (170) at fourth place Joseph Sorrentino (182) at first place and 182-pound tournament…
