I may be one of those people you are disparaging. I buy foreclosures and a few short sales, make…Read More repairs and rent them. You may not like your neighbors, however, in many cases, they are the same people that lost houses. It's a much better situation than having neighborhoods scattered with empty, boarded up homes.

And yet there has to be something that made you develop that opinion. I'm fascinated to hear what…Read More makes someone develop a personal belief that is so utterly reductive.
The "anecodotal (sic) and opinion evidence (whatever that is...)" that created my belief is informed by empathy, compassion, understanding, and open-mindedness. What have you got?

Might recheck history; this nation was founded on religious freedom. You write as if you have…Read More disdain for other faiths, such as the one Jesus was a part of - you might remember, it was Judaism. Thought that was in the Bible - all the iterations, even the politically re-written versions.

It is absolutely fascinating that with the exception of the Mayor, no one has yet answered or even…Read More attempted to answer this simple question, "Why should the City of Canton exist at all?" Where is the usually vocal and full of answers Glen Cummins aka Mr. Give Away the Fire Department because the County can do the same thing"? Where are the newly announced city council candidates? Where are the usually vocal and critical council meeting groupies? Where are the anonymous patch commentors? Crickets chirping.........why should the city exist? Anybody???
Clay Campbell June 7, 2013 at 02:55 pm
Because the question is ridiculous and your rantings make you sound crazy!
"What no one is…Read More taking into consideration with all this "give this city away" business is that Waleska, Holly Springs, Ball Ground, Woodstock, Acworth and Nelson in addition to Canton are all cities in the county yet Woodstock and Canton are the only ones with a city fire department. I don't see the other cities crying that they are giving their cities away! They all have superb police forces too! I am a lifelong city of Canton resident and am personally tired of all this arguing when the city knows full well we can't afford it and the vote failed."
Bill Bryan June 7, 2013 at 07:27 pm
Clay I'm only trying to challenge folks like yourself to actually think the entire issue through.…Read More The fact that you do not have an answer does not make the question ridiculous. And you do not have an answer do you? Some want the city to continue to exist as is and some want it to be totally eliminated. And some want it both ways (all of the premium services and benefits but for no extra cost) I love this city and I want it to continue to exist and to prosper. But to do that we must first justify Canton's existence and define Canton's purpose. The fact is that the county can perform every municipal service the city can FOR LESS MONEY. Another fact is that for every 100k of property value, a Canton property owner pays an additional $150 to the city. (except those 62 and older pay zero to the city until their value hits $280k) So what are the Taxpayers getting for that extra cost? They have a right to know. Come on Clay take a stab at it. Why don't you try to be a part of the solution instead of just another naysayer?

This is such great news! I have known Sandy for two years, and I am honored to call her a friend.…Read More While we do not always agree on every topic, I always feel she listens to and respects my point of view. We need more of this ability on the Canton City Council. Sandy is intelligent, witty, rational and extremely enthusiastic about Canton. She is also fiscally conservative, and this will be important as the city remains in debt. In addition, it would be great to have a female back on the City Council. As Sandy stated in her blog, I too hope you will take the time to get to know her and allow her to "listen" to your opinions about how to move our great city forward. Sandy, thank you for walking your talk and stepping forward!

Sandy my hat is off to you for stepping up to the plate. Words are plentiful but deeds are precious.…Read More Independent thinking, long term thinking, big picture thinking, not going along with the loud crowd, and making good decisions for the city without regard for the next election is not easy. And the price for doing this can be high. But in the end it is worth it to know you did the right thing.
Sandy McGrew May 26, 2013 at 09:10 pm
Bill - I couldn't agree with you more. It is going to be my pleasure to work very hard for Canton. I…Read More know it will not always be easy but I am up for the job. Thank you for your kind words.
