Winning PEEPs Contest Entry Honors Work of Habitat for Humanity

Winner Stacie Stamper: "Everybody has a way to give."

  The winner of the Patch Easter PEEPs contest is a diorama that shows a little marshmallow figure in a hard hat helping to build a home while other PEEPs cheer him (or her?) on.  The entry by Stacie Stamper honors the work of the Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore, which helps support the nonprofit’s mission to provide decent housing for low-income people around the world.  "That's so exciting. How fun is that?" Stamper said when she learned that her entry had won. Second place goes to Martin Burrow of Winder, who used jelly beans and a glass jar to create a colorful PEEPs floral arrangement. Stamper, a Duluth resident, is the donations coordinator for the Gwinnett Habitat ReStore in Lawrenceville. Habitat ReStores take donations of …

Local Children Walk the Runway Saturday in Fashion Show

Children from Canton are among those participating in the Me and My BFF Fashion Show at the Cherokee Arts Center.

See the Ribbon Cutting at Canton Theatre

The historic theatre unveiled its newest movie projection equipment on Thursday.

The Canton Theatre showed its first motion picture in nearly 40 years with the Thursday airing of "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark." The ceremonial ribbon cutting for the new equipment was held on Thursday on the stage of the historic theatre. The stage was crowded with dignitaries from the City of Canton, the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce, and other arts and governmental bodies. Theatre Manager Bob Seguin, who called the building his "man cave," has been credited with spearheading the drive to get $51,000 in new equipment to modernize the theatre and open it up for more corporate and family-friendly events. Movies in the Park Returns to Canton

The outdoor movie series hosted by Northside Hospital will return to Brown Park on Aug. 10,

Northside Hospital's free outdoor summer movie series "Movies in the Park" will be returning to Canton in August. The inauguaral film of the 2013 season will be "The Croods," on Aug. 10 at 8:30 p.m. The film will be played in scenic Brown Park. The park has views of the old city hall and the 1923 memorial arch. Get to Brown Park an hour before show time and get free face painting, or pick out the best seat in the house (but bring your own chairs and blankets from home)! This years' movie series is being sponsored by Northside Hospital-Cherokee, the City of Canton, and Southern Outdoor Cinema. Movies will also be shown in Brown Park on Sept. 7 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 12 at 7:00pm.
