Watch the BOE Hopefuls Talk Furloughs

Danny Dukes said he will eliminate all teacher furloughs. Monday night, he was asked how he would do that.

When he announced his run for county school board chair, Danny Dukes pledged to eliminate all teacher furloughs by reducing a "bloated" central office.

During Monday night's debate at the Cherokee County Republican Party headquarters in Towne Lake, he was asked how he would do that. This year, the Cherokee County School District has proposed eight furlough days, a move that is expected to save a total of about $8.8 million during the 2012-13 school year.

Watch what Dukes had to say and how his opponent, Cherokee County Board of Education Vice Chairwoman Janet Read, responded.

Ya know what.... Nice promises - but . Dukes is a repulican or Libertarian (which is actually also repulican 'like').... - the republicans are just NOT trusted by the '98%', because they don't do anything good 'for them'..... Their protected or preferred people are the wealthy, and corporations.... If I'm wrong and this man IS a Democrat than he might be serious about his promises to help get rid of the furlough days (days without pay).... But at what cost? He doesn't tell what he means by reducing a "bloated" central office.

The state of Georgia is over-run with republicans (year after year) and that's why there are furlough days in the first place (imo); that's what my research has beared out... Why should voters believe that this republican (Mr. Danny Dukes) would be any different once elected? And, in fact, one man against his own parties preferences doesn't seem realistic.... Wouldn't it be much better for the voter to vote for a candidate who is already within the political party who cares more FOR the 98% in the first place; and that party is NOT the republican party...
