A 16-year-old girl was flown to Grady Hospital on Wednesday after the black Toyota Camry she was driving left the highway and struck a tree on Butterworth Road.

The girl, who has not been identified, is in critical condition with a possible broken shoulder and head injuries, said Tim Cavender, spokesman for Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services, the agency that responded to the accident shortly after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

"The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office," Cavender said.
