UPDATE: Sheriff's Office: Canton Man Arrested for Child Porn

Martin Damian Bowman of Canton was arrested on Feb. 28 for ten counts of sexual exploitation of children.

UPDATE (3:50 p.m.): According to Lt. Jay Baker of the Cherokee Sheriff's Office, over 200 images of child pornography have been discovered on Bowman's computer.

ORIGINAL STORY: A Canton man is out of jail on a $112,000 bond after being arrested last month for possession of child pornography on his computer.

According to Cherokee Sheriff's Office documents, the investigation against Martin Damian Bowman began on March 16, 2012.

"These types of cases are generally similar," said Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Lt. Jay Baker. "We receive information someone is sharing child porn, investigators write a search warrant for the home and computer of suspect, that search warrant is executed and the computer is taken and then a forensic search of the computer is done."

Baker said that if technicians find "images of confirmed child pornography" on the computer in question, the owner of the computer is arrested.

Bowman was arrested and charged with ten counts of sexual exploitation of children on Feb. 28. He posted a $112,000 bail the same day and was released from custody. Bowman's case is ongoing, say authorities.

At the present time, it is unknown how much child pornography was found on Bowman's computer, or how investigators were originally tipped off in regards to this case.

Cherokee County...best place to be arrested for such. Will probably be dropped to 1/2 a count.

With any luck the authorities will pick up the individuals he "allegedly" shared the pictures with

I'm glad to see Bristol Boxer also had a comment on here. The length of this man's investigation doesn't make me feel hopeful that justice will be done in similar cases.

Dont any of you dare talk about this man. He is innocent, and this was a huge misunderstanding. Martin is an extremely respectable member of the Canton community. He didn't even know about the images on the computer, they were uploaded through a virus. It wasn't even his computer that the images were found on.

Anthony........ that sounds pretty far stretched.....

Also in the eyes of the law, if my (friends, family, stranger) drops a marijuana roach in my vehicle. just who goes to jail.... ME because i didnt know it was, and it not being mine has nothing to do with it.

if it is His computer, in his house...... either way, him, his son, his wife, or his daughter.

PS, i work on computers, and i have never seen/ heard of a virus distributing child porn before. that is the kind of stuff that hits national news........

but if it is true that a virus uploaded it to his computer, they will be able to tell one way or the other.

i personally can go through DOS command, find out the exact time you went to a website, the websites name, what the site deposited on your PC.

So the work they will be doing is. finding out: When he downloaded it, date and time. where it came from. site, email, disk. and if it is an email, then search down the IP address it came from.

also will be able to tell if he was ever hacked or logged into via a third party.

Surely the sheriff department made sure he had some sort of involvement, and eliminated any possibilities of a virus bring involved.

anthony....... over 200.... yeah he didnt do it did he???

Yeah. you can get 10 years for having over an ounce of Pot. but you can have pictures of naked kids opn your computer and distribute it and get less time.

Welcome to GA, have a nice day

CYtimes, no he didn't do it and i don't understand why you keep bringing up pot. I personally know the man and i can promise you that he is innocent. Also the comment about the roach in your car. Im guessing you partake in marijuana seeing that you know what a "roach" is. Also if your friend dropped a roach in your car and you did not know, but still were arrested for it, would you like everyone spreading lies about the situation? No. Please show some respect to a situation you know nothing about.

anthony. by the same logic, you must partake as well for knowing what it is.

But no the point that i was making is that. Even if it wasnt his, but it is in his house, on his PC, he is still in possession of it whether he knew it or not. get your head out of your bum.

People we know personally can be monsters. Jeffery Dahmur was a well respected, well liked member of the community.

So i guess 200 pictures of naked children just wondered onto his computer?

Also as i have said its very very easy to find out what happened, when, from where, at what time. on a computer.

it would take me about 10 min to see all the picutres you have ever viewed online/ had saved on your PC. see all the sites youve ever been too, the time and date.

but you dont think that a profession forensics team cant find even more????? grow up. your buddies a monster.

Im all about innocent until proven guilty, but when the evidence is so concrete and open like this, its impossible to see it any other way unless more info comes into play.
