Rogers to Talk Economic Development

1. Today, Georgia Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock), Canton Mayor Gene Hobgood, Cherokee County Board of Commissioners Chairman Buzz Ahrens and Cherokee County Economic Development Director Misti Martin will address the importance of opportunity zones in Cherokee County during a morning press conference. Areas designated as opportunity zones are eligible for tax credits and other incentives in exchange for economic development. Rogers' press conference will begin at 10 a.m. at the Cherokee County Airport. 2. The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners will meet today at 3 p.m. for its work session and 6 p.m. for its regular meeting. At 5 a.m., Holly Roberson will have a preview of what to expect, including an update on proposed road improvements to make away for the county's first outlet mall. During the Jan. 17 BOC meeting, commissioners approved Woodstock's request for $700,000 for assistance with Ridgewalk Parkway improvements.

3. The Georgia Department of Community Health on Friday rejected WellStar Health System's latest challenge to Northside Hospital-Cherokee's relocation efforts, officials from both hospitals announced on Monday. And the challenge may not be WellStar's last, spokesman Keith Bowermaster told Canton-Sixes Patch.

4. Starting today, and every Tuesday evening after that this month, representatives of Reinhardt UniversityHeritage Baptist Fellowship and Faith Presbyterian Church are inviting the public to join them in exploring the relationships of modern science and religion.

5. After the first day of voting, Cracker Barrel emerged as the leader in this week's Mother's Day-themed Readers' Choice poll. You have until 9 a.m. Friday to vote for your favorite Mother's Day brunch spot. Remember: It's not enough to just vote for your favorite restaurant.
