Reinhardt to Recognize Cherokee Educator Who Teaches Students To Give Back
Jillian Nichols, a Cherokee County resident and a second-grade teacher at Oak Grove Elementary School, will be honored as one of Reinhardt University's 10 Under 10 next week.
A Reinhardt University graduate and Cherokee County resident will be recognized for her passion for teaching and giving back to the community.
Jillian Nichols, who lives in Woodstock, will be honored as one of the school's 10 Under 10 during its Talon Awards Gala on March 21. The gala will be held at Northside United Methodist Church in Buckhead.
Reinhardt's 10 Under 10 each year recognizes 10 alumni during the last 10 years "who have been successful in business, the military, nonprofits, government, and/or the arts," according to the University.
The alumni recognized will have graduated between 2002 and 2012.
A photo of each alum will hang in the university's Student Center to honor their achievements.
Nichols, a second-grade teacher at Oak Grove Elementary School, received her bachelor's degree in early childhood education from Reinhardt in 2004 and started her teaching career with the Cherokee County School District.
In order to teacher her students the importance of giving back, she incorporates at least two service learning projects a year into their curriculum. She was named Teacher of the Year at Oak Grove for the current school year.
She is pursuing a Ph.D in curriculum and instruction at Northcentral University.
She also volunteers as a Fellowship of Christian Athletes Adult Leader for middle school students. Nichols is a Bible and Sunday school teacher and has traveled to both St. Vincent in the Grenadines and Anchorage, Alaska on mission trips.
