Plans to Connect Canton Parks with Trail Move Ahead

The proposed trail to connect Heritage Park and Boling Park is almost ready to receive a grant from the National Recreational Trails Program.

The City of Canton's plans to link Boling Park and Heritage Park with a nature trail are one step closer to fruition.

On Thursday, the city received notice from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources has accepted its plans for the trail and that the process to earn a $100,000 grant for the project will continue.

The next step in the process is the completion of an environmental review, which will examine the project's impact on endangered species, archaeological sites, and other factors.

Construction on the project cannot begin until this review is completed. Information needed to begin the review must be completed and seven identical packets of information must be sent in to the Department of Natural Resources by April 5.

The packet must include a narrative description of the project, a color topographic map of the project site, and high resolution photos of the project site.

The letter from the Department National Resources to the City of Canton can be found attached to this article.
