Tonight's low will be 29 degrees, with a 30 percent chance of showers before 7 p.m.
2. In Case You Missed It: It was a crazy day in the Cherokee County School District Thursday; one crossing guard was struck by a minivan, a hunter was spotted near school property prompting a code red alert, and rumors of weapons at a middle school forced the school to take security measures.
3. Happening Now: The family of slain Canton native R.J. Statler is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the man who shot him at a Cartersville car wash. 5. On This Date in History: On Dec. 20, 1860, South Carolina seceded from the Union, the first state to do so in the wake of the election of Abraham Lincoln. The secession of South Carolina was one of the key events leading to the start of the Civil War in April, 1861.
