Cherokee County resident Philip Foran works at United Insurance Group in Duluth. He treks down Interstates 575, 75, 285 and 85 every day to get to his office. This is a little about his drive.

Canton-Sixes Patch: What do you do, and what is your title?

Foran: I'm an insurance agent. I sell insurance: health, life, mortgage, annuities, long-term care and more.

Canton-Sixes Patch: How long have you lived in Cherokee County?

Foran: My wife and I have lived here for nearly five years. We moved from Cobb County.

Canton-Sixes Patch: How long have you commuted from Cherokee to work?

Foran: Since right after we moved here.

Canton-Sixes Patch: Why do you live in Cherokee County when your office is in Duluth?

Foran: Well, I came out of retirement for the job. So I already lived in Cherokee when I took it.

Canton-Sixes Patch: What kind of car do you drive?

Foran: I drive a 1995 Lexus LS400.

Canton-Sixes Patch: How many miles were on the car when you bought it?

Foran: 32,000.

Canton-Sixes Patch: How many miles are on the car now?

Foran: 193,000 or so.

Canton-Sixes Patch: What time do you leave home for work?

Foran: 9 a.m. 

Canton-Sixes Patch: How much time do you spend in the car in the morning?

Foran:  From 40 minutes to an hour.

Canton-Sixes Patch: What time do you leave work for home?

Foran: If I left at 4, I'd get home about 5 or 5:10. If I left at 3:30, I'd be stuck in traffic. So, usually 4.

Canton-Sixes Patch: How much time do you spend in the car in the evening?

Foran: About an hour.

Canton-Sixes Patch: What do you do to pass the time?

Foran: Plan the work day, who do I have to call, what do I have to do, that sort of thing.

Canton-Sixes Patch: What is your worst commuter story/memory?

Foran: I was driving down 75 a couple of years ago, in the right lane, and a guy driving a Jag in the lane to my left looked over his shoulder for a split second to change lanes and the truck in front of him slowed down quickly. He hit the truck and his car was totaled, but he was OK. That was the worst wreck I ever witnessed. Traffic was backed up pretty bad after that, but I made it through. 

Canton-Sixes Patch: How often do you wish you lived closer to your job? How often do you think about what it would be like to live closer to your job?

Foran: The advantages to living closer to the job are numerous, but that would put us living in Atlanta, most likely. We like living where we are. It's a nice area to live, and we like always having a place to park our cars, which, if you live in the city, that's not always a guarantee. So, I don't think about it often.
