Man, 47, Taken to Kennestone

His car went down an embankment on Old Highway 5 in South Canton this afternoon.

An unidentified 47-year-old man was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital after an accident this afternoon in Canton.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services spokesman Tim Cavender said crews responded to an accident at about 1:45 p.m. on Old Highway 5 in South Canton, not to far from Univeter Road.

"When emergency service personnel arrived on scene, they found a silver KIA Optima had left the highway, gone down a 30 foot embankment, and struck some trees," Cavender said in a statement. "The driver of the vehicle ... had to be extricated."

The man's injuries don't appear to be life threatening, he said.

The Canton Police Department is investigating the cause of the accident.
