Community Urged to Pray Tonight
Find out what's coming up on Canton-Sixes Patch today and what you might have missed overnight.
1. With support from individuals across Cherokee County, Collins Dixon's dream of attending a University of Georgia bowl game came true on Monday. The Teasley Middle School seventh-grader, who has battled an aggressive form of brain cancer for the past 10 months, needs your support again. Results from an MRI indicate Collins' tumor has grown. From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. tonight, people all over Cherokee County will gather at Cherokee High School to pray for Collins and his family. Kevin "Chappy" Hynes, the chaplain for the University of Georgia football team, will be the keynote speaker. Everyone is asked to wear red and black, the colors of Collins' beloved Dawgs.
2. The Canton City Council will have its first meeting of 2012 tonight, and two new faces will be on the dais. Ward I Council member Hooky Huffman and Ward III Council member Glen Cummins, who defeated incumbents Pat Tanner and Amelia Rose in November, will take office. If you can't make tonight's meeting, return to the site at 6 p.m. to watch it from the comfort of your home.
3. You have until Jan. 8 to vote for Georgia's only finalist in Patch's nationwide Deck the House contest. Click here to vote for the Felix family of at Dallas, GA.
4. Canton-Sixes Patch now runs death notices. If you've lost a loved one, please add the information in the comment box at the bottom of this file.
5. Bring your cut Christmas trees to Boling Park this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. as part of Bring One for the Chipper, Georgia's annual Christmas tree recycling program.
