Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services, Canton Fire Department and Woodstock Fire and Rescue responded to a structure fire at Canterbury Ridge Apartments in Canton at approximately 2 o'clock this afternoon.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find heavy black smoke coming from the roof of Building 3. Numerous firefighters and police officers began banging on the doors of the apartments to be sure all of the residents were out and safe. The majority of the fire area was confined to the upper level of the structure. According to the apartment manager, the building contained 28 apartments with 3 of those being unoccupied. The other levels of the building had fire, smoke and water damage.

Fourteen fire engines, four squads, three ladder trucks and approximately 10 support units from three fire agencies responded to the afternoon (fire).

Reports indicated that four residents were treated for smoke inhalation and one female was transported to Kennestone with anxiety issues.

The American Red Cross was called to assist some of the residents at the apartment complex.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
