Original report, 3:15 p.m. Wednesday

One person died Tuesday night and four others were taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for various injuries after a head-on collision on Bells Ferry and Butterworth roads.

When crews from Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and the Canton Fire Department arrived on the scene shortly after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, the 29-year-old driver of a Pontiac Grand Prix involved in the accident was trapped, two other male occupants had neck, hip and back pains, and one had a knot on his head, Cherokee Fire spokesman Tim Cavender said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

In the Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck, a man had a cut to his forehead and a woman complained of ankle pain.

"Their injuries appeared to be minor," Cavender said, "but they were transported to Kennestone Hospital to be evaluated."

While Cavender said the cause of the accident is under investigation, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office told 11Alive that speed might have been a factor.
