Cherokee Unemployment Rate Down For August

The county has the lowest rate for the 10-county region.

 

The August 2012 jobs report has been released and Cherokee County had the lowest unemployment rate for the 10-county metro Atlanta region.

The Georgia Department of Labor reports Cherokee's August unemployment rate was 7.1 percent, down from 7.5 in July and 8.2 in August 2011.

However, Cherokee's labor force dropped to 113,302 in August from 114,369 in July. Last month's labor force figure is still higher than August 2011 labor force number of 112,262.

Fayette County's unemployment rate was second with 7.8 percent, followed by Gwinnett at 7.9 percent, Cobb at 8.1 percent, Henry at 9 percent, Douglas at 9.2 percent, DeKalb at 9.4 percent, Fulton at 9.9 percent, Rockdale at 10.1 percent and Clayton at 11.2 percent. 

Last week, the department of labor reported Georgia's unemployment rate for August was 9.2 percent, which was unchanged from its seasonally adjusted July rate. It's also down from the August 2011 rate of 9.9 percent.
