Canton Kmart, Sears Safe for Now
But four metro Atlanta locations are on a list of 79 stores that will close it doors. Sears plans to close as many as 41 more.
Breathe a sigh of relief, Canton Kmart and Sears customers.
Illinois-based Sears Holdings today released an initial list of 79 stores slated for closure, and Canton isn't on it.
Tuesday, Sears announced plans to close anywhere from 100 to 120 Sears and Kmart stores nationwide.
The move is necessary, company officials say, because of sagging consumer electronic and home appliance holiday sales.
The list of 79, which is available online and on the attached PDF, includes four metro Atlanta locations.
The four are located at:
- 9552 Hwy. 5, Douglasville;
- 230 Cleveland Ave. Southwest, Atlanta;
- 1605 Buford Hwy., Buford;
- and 7965 Tara Blvd., Jonesboro.
