Infant Shaken, in Critical Condition

The girl was born Feb. 17.

A 2-month-old Canton girl is in critical condition at  after her father allegedly shook her.

"The baby has not even been able to have a skeletal exam because the baby is in such fragile, critical condition," said Sgt. Stacy Bailey, spokeswoman for the .

The infant's father, 24-year-old Juander Escobar-Cobon, is at the  on felony charges of aggravated battery and cruelty to children in the first degree. An illegal immigrant who was deported as recently as December, he is also being held for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

He has appeared in Cherokee County Mug Shots, a weekday feature on Canton-Sixes Patch, at least twice, on  and .

According to Bailey, the department received a call from officials at the Sandy Springs hospital about 9:42 Friday night.

A baby, born Feb. 17, had been airlifted to the facility from , where her parents had initially taken her for medical treatment. It's not clear whether the girl was conscious when she was admitted to the hospital. 

An official at Scottish Rite gave Canton authorities an address: 92 Lakeview Dr.

It is there that police arrested Escobar, Bailey said. Investigators have learned that Escobar was watching his daughter while the baby's mother was at work.

Bailey said there's no indication of previous bruising before Friday's incident.

"This is new," Bailey said of the girl's injuries.
