Audio: Post Office Rejects County's Free Rent Offer, Plans to Close
Listen as the Canton City Council discusses the Main Street post office and the Cherokee County School District administration building during Thursday night's meeting.
During a discussion of the Main Street post office, Mayor Gene Hobgood told council members that the U.S. Postal Service did not accept the county's offer to stay put rent-free.
The post office is slated to close in September and will be folded into the Riverstone Boulevard operation.
In an email to Canton-Sixes Patch on Monday, USPS spokesman Michael Miles wrote that he did not have a chance to "followup on this with our Facilities people." He has not replied to subsequent requests for comment.
