After 40 Years, R&M Might Close
If there aren't any buyers when the building goes up for sale on Wednesday, the hoagie shop will close.
R&M Sandwich Shop's 40th anniversary is Tuesday, but there is no celebration planned.
That's because Canton's oldest single owner business is on the brink of serving its last hoagie, according to a report in Saturday's Cherokee Tribune.
The building goes up for sale on Wednesday. And if there aren't any buyers, eventually the shop will close and leave another gaping hole in Canton's struggling downtown.
On R&M's Facebook page, longtime patrons are sharing their memories and sadness.
What are your memories of R&M? Is downtown doomed? Let us know in the comment box below.
Cherokee County Solicitor General David Cannon Jr. worked at R&M when he was a student at Cherokee High. For an hour's work, he got $5 and a hoagie.
"The best job i ever had," he wrote. "We can not let this happen!"

Mike, we all want to support R&M, my father brought me there, we bring our kids there... I came to The Patch after reading the Ledger... Good to hear no imminent danger!

Great example of how journalism has become copy paste editorials. Had Rodney called Mr Deluca for a statement he might have gotten the reality of the story. Not the drama headline that sells to the public. Seems the Patches editors are good at copy pasting pre prepared stories from other news outlets. I suppose this is just what journalism has become today.

Actually, R&M might close, Mikael. What Mr. DeLuca wanted to clear up were assumptions from people in the general public that R&M's last day would be today. Perhaps you didn't see our video interview where we got "the reality of the story" from Mr. DeLuca. I'm assuming from your comment that you did not see it. Watch it here: http://canton-ga.patch.com/articles/r-m-to-continue-serving-hoagies-for-now

Right, but you did not link that in your article nor did you indicate in the headline the realty of the story. . " After 40 Years, R&M Might Close" This is the title of the article. but not the reality of the situation. A headline that says " Long time family business looking for financial boost. " would have been more appropriate for the actual facts of the issue. The patches drew a conclusion on speculation.
The title is speculating something that can not be determined with out more information. Patches provides some detail, but then they link to the tribunes website where most of the patches information came from as well. If i wanted to read the tribune i can read the tribune. Why cant the patches do a better job at their own journalism. It is a disservice to your readers.

Mikael: Your assessments of the R&M story as well as our newsgathering processes are grossly inaccurate. When you'd like an accurate depiction of both, please feel free to call me at 770-367-9568.

Just do your readers a service produce journalism, that is all any one could ask for.
Thanks
Journalism is defined in Merriam-Webster as: Writing characterized by a direct presentation of the facts without an attempt at interpretation.

Too bad your comments don't meet that definition. We do produce journalism. If you had taken the time to read the 1,000s of original stories that have appeared on this site before you grossly mischaracterized our newsgathering, maybe you would have realized that. Each Patch site has one full-time employee whose responsibilities far exceed that of a traditional journalist. We can't cover every story or make it to every meeting and we don't apologize for it. In those instances, we aggregate information from other news sources. Aggregation has become a important tool in newsrooms across the country as a result of drastic industry changes and the proliferation of blogs and social media sites. The AJC has written stories and attributed the information to Canton-Sixes Patch (Example: http://www.ajc.com/news/cherokee/cherokee-official-didnt-intend-1183262.html). What's important to us is that you get the information, not where it comes from. And again, if you had watched the video, you would have seen that Mr. DeLuca said the business might close.
