Accident Kills Canton Man

Jason Denny's convertible struck a retaining wall on Hickory Flat Highway early this morning, authorities said.

A Cherokee County Sheriff's Office spokesman said speed may have been a factor in a single vehicle crash that killed a 36-year-old Canton man early this morning.

Lt. Jay Baker said deputies were called to the scene of an accident at Hickory Flat Highway and Cherokee Overlook Drive in Canton at 1:50 a.m.

Jason Denny died instantly when his Saab convertible struck a retaining wall as he drove west on Hickory Flat Highway, he said.

There were no passengers in the vehicle.

The Traffic Enforcement Unit's investigation is ongoing, Baker said, but preliminary findings show that speed may have played a role in the crash.

Jason, I will always cherish our time together. Your were my best friend for so many years. I will miss that smiling face walking through my mothers door with a crazy story to tell from your Army years. I'm glad I was able to be there for you during those times. You always made me smile and I am sorry we lost touch all those years ago. I hope you are in a great place right now and I will miss you forever. Between you and me (keep the door open no matter what anyone tells you).
Love Always, Your Lisa

I was wondering if anyone can help me. I am a friend of Jason's from his hometown and am trying to get some information. Our papers at home have not yet posted anything about services for Jason. I have tried to look at papers from where he lived and I have found nothing. If anyone knows anything, can you please post it.

Erin, Jason will stay with you in your heart forever. The saying is true "it is better to have loved and lost then to never have loved at all". Just remember that he loved you so much no matter where you two were in life, together or apart and now he will shine down on you from heaven above.

Wow, u were his girlfriend! I am so sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine your pain. I haven't been in contact with jay since we were 22 and I can't stop fighting back the tears. I was never his girlfriend but I was the person he called to talk about everything from the time we were 15 to 22. If he still was as wonderful as he was back then, then your r one lucky girl to have been able to share part of your life with him. I am trying to look on the positive side and remember the great times we had together. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Nobody stated that this was facebook, this is obviously a way for her and Lisa to connect. Erins comments have not held others back from posting their thoughts or feelings nor does she have any drama going on here. It seems to be that you are almost intentionally creating drama for an unnecessary reason. Let people grieve in any way the feel necessary. Remember, everyone on here lost Jason and so lets not be against one another.....

Thank you Megan, I am trying to connect with Jason's current friends. I have always missed him being so far away and now am having a hard time grasping the fact that I will never see him again.
Erin, It sounds like he did not change. Jason always made a great impact in the lives of the ones that he loved. You and I both got to experience that as well as many others. I am very greatful that I can connect with someone who knew Jay when I did not. I was wondering if you could help me. I have thought about Jay alot over the last 14 years and always wondered how his life turned out. I will not be able to let him know about mine and introduce him to my husband or children. I only blame myself for that. Since you did spend so much of that time with him, I was wondering if you could look me up on facebook or send your email my way. I would love to talk to you about him, but in a more private manner.

I'm guessing that Jason's services were today. Poland high school memorial page is looking for any information that anyone can give. They are trying to find a link to his obituary or any other information about where to send gifts or where he will be buried.

His family didn't post anything - they wanted a private ceremony. But yes, Jason was remembered today and his ashes were spread at the Ranger Camp (sorry that I don't have the exact name right now) in Dahlonega, Georgia earlier today. I had traveled up that way to attend, but gps had other plans for me today. I heard it was beautiful and that several of his Ranger friends attended. Once I have additional information, I will post it. Rest in Peace Jason.

It was truly a moving ceremony and wonderful tribute to a good man. The Rangers did several nice tributes to Jason and his exploits. They recited the Rangers Creed and had a 21 gun salute. Taps were played as well as amazing grace on the bag pipes. His brother spoke and had several nice tales of when he and Jason were younger. It was a great service for what was a great man.
