22 Health Violations at Canton Company

An inspection of Go Plastics LLC "identified a broad range of hazards that, if left uncorrected, expose workers to electric shocks, potential falls and combustible dust hazards."

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration is proposing more than $55,000 in penalties against a Canton plastics manufacturer found to have 22 safety and health violations.

Prompted by a complaint, an August inspection of Go Plastics LLC "identified a broad range of hazards that, if left uncorrected, expose workers to electric shocks, potential falls and combustible dust hazards,” Bill Fulcher, director of OSHA’s Atlanta-East Area Office, said this afternoon in a statement.

Twenty of the 22 violations were deemed serious, meaning "there is substantial probability that death or serious physical harm could result from a hazard."

Officials with OSHA observed, among other things, electrical deficiencies, exits blocked by wooden crates and totes and spray bottles containing acetone with no hazard labels.

“Employers cannot wait for an OSHA inspection to identify the hazards that expose their employees to serious injury," Fulcher said. "It is good business to implement preventive programs to ensure that such hazards are identified and corrected as part of day-to-day operations.”
