Aurora Theatre in Lawrenceville opens a new season with the Broadway classic Sweet Charity beginning August 2, 2012.

With Sweet Charity, Aurora Theatre welcomes a former Atlanta standout who has gained national recognition for his work. New York based veteran of several Broadway national tours, Trent Blanton of Canton will portray all of Charity’s love interests. Blanton has played virtually every major city in North America in the Broadway National Tour of Les Miserables. He was also in the Chinese premiere of Les Miz in 2002 with Colm Wilkinson at the Shanghai Grand Theatre. Currently he is an Assistant Professor of Theatre in the Westminster College of the Arts of Rider University.

Sweet Charity chronicles the misadventures of Charity Hope Valentine, a dance hall gal with a heart of gold who attempts to navigate the emotionally treacherous terrain of romance and New York City in the 1960’s. Sweet Charity was created by a team of legends in the industry with music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Dorothy Fields and book by American comedy master Neil Simon. Winner of 5 Tony Awards, Sweet Charity is best known for show-stopping musical numbers like Big Spender, If My Friends Could See Me Now and I’m A Brass Band.

Opening thier 17th Season, Aurora Theatre is the only professional theatre in Gwinnett county and by budget one of the top 5 in Georgia. The Aurora Theatre main stage season is comprised of Broadway’s best plays and musicals alongside exciting new works of contemporary theatre. Additionally, Aurora produces concerts, comedy club events, children’s programs, metro Atlanta’s top haunted attraction, Lawrenceville Ghost Tours as well as Atlanta’s only professional Spanish language theatre, Teatro Del Sol. Aurora Theatre is a world-class theatrical facility with two performances venues.
