Creekview High School Students Co-Author Article in National Educational Journal

Four juniors at Creekview High School -- Jordan Grandt, Jacob Morgan, Bethany Roper and Kristiena Shafer -- recently co-authored an article with school librarian Buffy Hamilton that is published in the September/October 2012 issue of Knowledge Quest, the official journal of the American Association of School Librarians.

“Not only are these students now published authors in a respected educational publication, but they also did the drafting and editing during their summer vacation -- something they obviously did not have to do,” Ms. Hamilton said.  “Their work will go beyond the Creekview community and inspire other practitioners and scholars who have an interest in redefining contemporary models of school and learning.”

Ms. Hamilton also served as co-editor of the issue.

“While I am pleased to share that I served as the co-editor for this issue with my friend and colleague Ernie Cox, I am even more delighted that four of our Media 21 students co-authored this article with me,” she said.  “It was a pleasure to highlight the voices of our students and the work we’ve done with teacher Susan Lester.  The article shows the promise and possibilities of meaningful and deep collaborative partnerships for authentic and participatory learning between the library, classroom teachers, and students.  I believe their work represents how school librarians can serve as learning specialists in their work with classroom teachers and students to implement curricular standards (Common Core) and positively impact student learning.”
